The tea commodity in Paninggaran District is a former PIR Program and has been cultivated since 1986. The total land area is around 511 hectares. Now hundreds of tea farmers in Paninggaran District, are able to produce premium quality green tea. With assistance from the Jateng Berdikari Foundation, Business Watch Indonesia (BWI), and the Pekalongan Regency Government, around 350 tea farmers formed the Berdikari Makmur Cooperative (KSU Berdikari Makmur) in 2014.
This cooperative is to market green tea products under the trademarks Green Tea Parama and Djie Toe. Processed tea from Paninggaran farmers produces premium quality green tea. Markets in big cities can be penetrated. Such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and Medan. Several large hotels in Pekalongan City also use green tea from these Paninggaran farmers.
Now, with the touch and policy of the Regent of Pekalongan, Asip Kholbihi, green tea from Paninggaran farmers is becoming increasingly known. This condition was able to increase sales of Paninggaran tea. What encourages this change is that the Regent of Pekalongan, Asip Kholbihi, required the Regional Government Work Unit offices in the Pekalongan Regency Government to use Paninggaran green tea. Even the Regent of Pekalongan, Asip Kholbihi, at the end of last week also mobilized civil servants in the Pekalongan Regional Government to visit the Paninggaran tea garden tourist attraction. The goal, of course, is to boost the economy of the people of Paninggaran District, to improve it.
Currently, there are 10 villages in Paninggaran District whose land is planted with tea plantations. The 511 hectare tea plantations are spread across the villages of Paninggaran, Sawangan, Krandegan, Lumeneng, Tanggeran, Bedagung, Kaliboja, Botosari, Lambanggelun and Tenogo. In total,there are around 350 farmers who grow tea. As for the current production of premium green tea, it is no more than 125 kilograms per day. The average price of premium quality green tea reaches IDR 150,000 per kilogram. Even the best quality white tea costs up to IDR 3 million per kilogram.
The tea garden in Paninggaran District is expected to become one of the leading tours in Pekalongan Regency. Moreover, Paninggaran District is also the largest producer of mangosteen fruit in Pekalongan Regency. Each main harvest is able to produce more than 800 tons of mangosteen fruit every year.
In Paninggaran District there are also non-cholesterol crackers snacks, namely ‘usek’ crackers which are sand-fried. Paninggaran ‘usek’ crackers are very famous, because they taste delicious and sweet without preservatives. In fact, the need for tapioca flour to meet 160 ‘usek’ cracker entrepreneurs reaches IDR 3 billion annually.
