Women & Youth Women & Youth

Women are an important factor in the development of the tea sector. The majority of tea pickers are women; this makes their skills and knowledge crucially important to improve the quality of the farmers’ tea. Women are also heavily involved in the downstream tea industries, both in terms of processing, packaging and marketing.

Tea picking women are generally entering their old age. Not a few of them work as the main backbone. Even so, the income they receive is usually not as much as male farmers because of the limited types of activities they do. This limitation is caused by their time being divided between domestic and farm activities, limited skills, and the unavailability of supporting work tools.

In addition to women’s, youth participation is required to support the sustainability of the agricultural sector and rural development. Industrialization has lured rural youth to migrate to cities and leave the agriculture sector. While on the other hand, the growth of the agro-commodities market requires farmers to be more innovative.

We strive to increase the capacity of rural women and youth in various ways and increase access to things that will support their welfare.
