The Ministry of Trade continues to make efforts to diversify Indonesian tea products so that they have added value and are competitive to strengthen the export market for tea commodity. One of these efforts was carried out through a seminar entitled Exported Product Clinic ‘Opportunities for Exporting Tea Products Abroad’ in Bandung, West Java, Wednesday (28/3/2018). “The Ministry of Trade hopes that the Exported Tea Products Clinic can help revive the glory of tea commodity among the existence of other Indonesian agricultural products in the global market, such as coffee and palm oil, which are currently growing both in value and in volume of exports to foreign countries,” explained the Director General of National Export Development (PEN) Arlinda through a press release.
The seminar was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and the Indonesian Tea Association (ATI). The participants were business actors in the tea sector from West Java, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Yogyakarta and Bali. In this seminar, the participants received additional insight and knowledge to improve product quality according to market tastes and provide guidance in determining an effective marketing strategy. In addition, the resource person also presented information related to efforts to overcome obstacles to Indonesian tea exports abroad, as well as matters that must be considered so that Indonesian tea commodities can be accepted in foreign markets.
The Exported Tea Products Clinic event is getting busier with tea tasting. The participants had the opportunity to taste various Indonesian superior tea commodities such as green tea and black tea. In addition, one-on-one business meetings were also held. Through these business meetings, resource persons and participants have a space to exchange information and experiences in the field of product development and marketing of tea commodities, and to increase the network of business cooperation among business actors. Prior to attending the seminar, representatives from the Ministry of Trade, the Indonesian Tea Association, tea business actors, and PTPN IV also visited tea plantations and processing factories in Pangalengan and Ciwidey, West Java, on Monday and Tuesday, 26-27 March 2018. This visit was intended to explore tea data and information through field surveys and direct interaction with tea business actors.
