The tea plant has a strong root system, so it is good for preventing soil erosion or landslides. The goodness of tea for nature needs to be supported by good cultivation so that tea plants are productive and provide long-term benefits.

Good tea cultivation certainly does not only focus on the weight of the tea shoots produced, but also on the quality and impact on the environment and health. Environmentally friendly tea cultivation at least integrates efforts to adapt and mitigate climate change in a series of activities.

We encourage farmers to implement environmentally friendly tea cultivation through the LESTARI program. LESTARI is a sustainability initiative that generate a national tea certification scheme which concerns responsible tea cultivation and processing practices and pays attention to sustainability aspects, especially at the tea farmer level.
